On Jan. 23, 2017 100 Black Men of Denver presented a panel of educators and students to discuss education in Denver. The message was that parents of color have to renew their minds regarding the system of education, a message white people should hear as well. Dr. Perry said, parents of color need to build relationships from the parents, to the students, teachers and administrators, and take ownership of their schools. I would add make the School Board and Superintendent answer to you. We need to demand schools challenge all our students, not just the middle+ class white students. Letting gaps prevail is a failure of DPS and their reform ideology. Dr. Perry is right, DPS leadership and school administrators will not change due to a sudden onset of conscious, we have to fight for it.
